Anuradha Annaswamy (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA)

Anuradha Annaswamy is Founder and Director of the Active-Adaptive Control Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. Her research interests span adaptive control theory and its applications to aerospace, automotive, propulsion, and energy systems as well as cyber physical systems such as Smart Grids, Smart Cities, and Smart Infrastructures. She has received best paper awards (Axelby; CSM; Annual Reviews in Control), as well as Distinguished Member and Distinguished Lecturer awards from the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) and a Presidential Young Investigator award from NSF. She is a Fellow of IEEE and International Federation of Automatic Control. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni award from Indian Institute of Science.

Anuradha Annaswamy is the author of a graduate textbook on adaptive control, a coauthor of a 2021 report on Future of Electric Power in the United States, and a 2023 report on the Role of Net-metering in the Evolving Electricity System, both published by National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. She served as the President of CSS in 2020. She has been serving as a Faculty Lead in the Electric Power Systems workstream in the MIT Future Energy Systems Center since September 2021.

Anuradha Annaswamy has served as the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and Automatica. She has served as the Editor in Chief of a Special Issue on Control Theory and Technology in the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, and as a Guest Editor on Smart * City Networks in the IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems. She is on the editorial board of the IEEE Open Journal of Control Systems, IEEE Access, the IFAC Annual Reviews in Control, and Asian Journal of Control. She has served as the Deputy Editor of Annual Reviews in Control from 2016-2020. With Tariq Samad, she co-edited the CSS report on Impact of Control Technology (first edition: 2011; second edition 2013). With Karl Johansson and George Pappas, she edited the CSS report “Control for societal-scale Challenges: Road Map 2030,” published in 2023


 
Andrea Francesco Castelletti (Politecnico di Milano, Italy)
Andrea Castelletti is a professor of Natural Resources Management and Environmental Systems Analysis and Management at Politecnico di Milano. He received an MSc degree in Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Information Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1999 and 2005. He was visiting scholar at Princeton University, Cornell University, Lancaster University, and University of Western Australia. From 2014 to 2022 he was a senior scientist at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2007 to 2015 he was Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Water Research of the University of Western Australia. He is the head of the Environmental Intelligence Lab at Politecnico di Milano and Chair of the PhD Program in Science, Technology, and Policy for Sustainable Change. Dr. Castelletti research interest includes water systems planning and control under uncertainty and risk, decision-making for complex engineering systems, machine learning for environmental applications. He has been working for more than 15 years on African and Asian water resources systems, exploring novel approach to sustainable and robust design and operation of water infrastructure.  Dr. Castelletti is co-author of 2 international books on integrated water resource management, more than 200 publications in international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. In 2022 is was selected as Italian National Champion for the Frontiers Planet Prize. In 2021 his work on strategic planning of the Mekong hydropower expansion has been awarded the ASPEN Institute award from best Italy-US research. In 2009 he was awarded a senior fellowship by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, in 2010 an Early Career Excellence Award by the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society, in 2013 the Italy-Canada Innovation prize, in 2016 the EFARRI award, and in 2018 he was Biennial Medalist for the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society.

Emanuele Gissi (Italian Fire and Rescue Service, Italy)

Emanuele Gissi is a professional fire chief of the Italian Fire and Rescue Service (CNVVF, http://www.vigilfuoco.it/) since 2002. 

He received a PhD in Engineering Physics. In addition to managing fire brigades and rescue activities, his main interest is bridging the gap between fire research and fire safety engineering practice. He develops open source tools for building and forest fire simulation.
